Major vs. Minor Listening Exercise

Can you hear the difference between these major and minor chords? 👂💭

Usually we think of Major as 'happy' and minor as 'sad'. I ask students to come up with their own associations as these are much more powerful. Some say minor sounds 'rainy' or Major sounds 'proud'. Then you ask yourself... does it sound proud or rainy? ☂️

The other thing to remember is that the lower end of the range sounds darker, while the higher end sounds lighter. This complicates things as a major chord in the low end may sound dark and vice versa! 😵

Hope you enjoyed this listening exercise, look forward to one same time next week! The chords in order were:

Major, minor, minor, Major. minor and Major.

How many did you get? I would love to know how you got on, whether it was easy or difficult. Let me know in the comments 👇

Thanks for watching 🙏
