Synergy Studio

In 2016 / 2017 a charity called ‘The Synergy Centre’ had a temporary lease on a neglected venue in central Brighton. They were using it as a Community Music and Arts venue. Charlie Kew was working for The Synergy Centre as an assistant manager and this is where Community Loops began. The project was lead by Charlie with support from Kai Swarvett, Rosie Robinson and other friends and local musicians. All of which wouldn’t have been possible, without the existence of The Synergy Centre itself, put together by Steve Peake and supported by Nick Parker.

The venue itself was huge (it has now been knocked down). With lots of interesting rooms and spaces. Below the main hall was a basement room that used to be a green room for artists. Collaboratively we had the idea of setting this space up as a recording and production suite. We used the space to provide artists with recordings, as well as members of the public with an opportunity to engage in the studio.

To set up the space we had to knock down a couple of walls and source several desks and shelves. A request to The Chalk Cliff Trust from Charlie Kew to fund The Synergy Centre was successfully awarded, granting us to purchase some essential bits of studio equipment. We contributed a load of Community Loops gear that we had available for workshops. The space was used for several workshops and activities, but never came to full fruition. As it was decided the centre would be destroyed rather than kept as an asset to the community. We never got round to taking any decent photos, but here are some of the space itself.
