Play… Music and You (Ep. 1)

 

Welcome to the very first in a series of music meditations about playing. Here we will be learning to notice how our intentions carry into music and sound. With an instrument, our voices and in the sounds of our everyday lives.

 

Why do we use the word ‘play’ in music? Without the enjoyment and fun of music, we would never get started. Yet without structure and discipline our music wouldn’t progress and would no longer be fun. There is a balance we have to strike between having fun and taking it seriously, in music. But this is also true of anything we might be learning. Fundamentally, we are growing a relationship.

 
 

Playing is all about building a relationship with music. It needs to be fun, but also taken seriously. Try noticing how your intentions carry into sound as you practise:
